Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
and emissions calculation

We perform an objective and comparable evaluation of the environmental impact of products and provide the basis for communicating environmental performance accurately and verifiably.

What is it about?

The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology allows for the identification and evaluation of potential environmental impacts of a product, process, or service throughout its entire life cycle, from the extraction of raw materials to end-of-life management. The environmental footprint value is expressed in the form of different "impact categories": natural resource use (resource depletion), effects on human health (human health and safety effects), effects on the ecosystem (ecological effects), and the greenhouse effect (climate change).

Why conduct an LCA analysis?

It allows for the identification of opportunities to improve the environmental performance of products at every stage of their life cycle.
It supports strategic planning, priority setting, and the design or redesign of products, processes, or services.
It enables the selection of the most sustainable alternative among products, processes, and services that perform the same function.
It provides verifiable and non-misleading information on the environmental performance of the product to ensure accurate communication and avoid the risk of greenwashing. At the European level, LCA analysis is identified as a fundamental tool for identifying significant environmental aspects.
It is a fundamental support for the development of Environmental Labeling schemes in defining the environmental reference criteria for a given group of products (Type I environmental label: Ecolabel), or as the main tool aimed at obtaining an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration: Type III environmental label).
It is the basis for activities such as CO₂ compensation or for making one or more products from your company "carbon neutral."

Life Cycle Assessment analysis is the basis for CO₂ compensation activities and for achieving the carbon neutrality of a product or organization.

How we support you in LCA analysis

Based on ISO standards from the 14040 series that regulate the methodology at the international level, we support your company in all 4 phases of an LCA study:

1.

Definition of the objective and scope: we establish the reasons why the study is being conducted and the recipients to whom the results of the analysis will be communicated, specifying the system boundaries, i.e., the phases to be included or excluded from the study, and the functional unit, which is the reference unit of measurement of the study to which all input and output data are normalized.

2.

Inventory analysis: we collect and process data in order to quantify input flows (resources, energy, etc.) and output flows (waste, emissions, etc.) related to the system under study.

3.

Environmental impact assessment: we assess the significance of the potential environmental impacts of the system. This is possible by transforming input/output flows into potential contributions to environmental impact categories (for example, we evaluate the contribution of methane gas emitted during the production process of a garment to the greenhouse gas impact category).

4.

Interpretation: we analyze the results obtained from the inventory analysis and the environmental impact assessment, providing conclusive opinions on the study and identifying possible actions to improve any environmental issues identified.
